Pedro Paredes Carcelén

A sculptor with a passion rooted in his family’s tradition of blacksmithing. At the age of 15, he began his career in forging and blacksmithing, learning the intricacies of working with iron and developing skills that laid the foundation for his artistic career.

Approximately 30 years ago, his artistic journey took a turn toward furniture restoration. During this period, he immersed himself in training as a restorer, where he gained a deep understanding of conservation and renovation techniques. This phase of his career not only expanded his skill set but also allowed him to explore the intersection of functionality and aesthetics, enriching his perspective as a sculptor.

As his practice progressed, he experienced a natural evolution toward abstract sculpture. Wood became his primary canvas, and through it, he explored the expressive freedom that abstraction allows. The incorporation of iron into his works marked a new phase, fusing the robustness of metal with the elegance of wood to create unique pieces that transcend convention.

In recent years, he has taken his art to new horizons by venturing into stone sculpture. This technical challenge has allowed him to explore the artistic possibilities inherent in this solid and durable material. His stone works seek to communicate not only shapes and textures, but also a deep connection with nature and the history that lies within each piece.

His career has been characterized by constant experimentation and a desire to transcend artistic boundaries.

His training is self-taught, which has allowed him to develop skills independently and quickly adapt to new challenges.

In short, his journey as a sculptor has been an exciting journey, moving from the roots of blacksmithing to abstract exploration and, finally, to stone sculpture. Through each phase, his approach has been enriched, and his work reflects the ever-evolving synthesis of tradition, technique, and creativity.
